Farmers Markets Kick Off on Thursday, May 14 at Daley Plaza

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Chicago Farmers Markets, presented by the Mayor's Office of Special Events and COUNTRY Financial.
The City of Chicago and COUNTRY Financial will kick off the 2009 Chicago Farmers Markets at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, at Daley Plaza. The winner of the Second Reusable Bag Design Contest will be announced.
Open to all Chicago Public Schools high school students, the 2009 Farmers Markets Reusable Bag Design Contest winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and have his/her design displayed on all reusable shopping bags handed out at Chicago Farmers Markets throughout the summer. Two runners-up will each receive a $500 scholarship.
COUNTRY will distribute 500 sustainable shopping bags and a $100 gift card.
Special guests include the three contest finalists and city officials. There will also be a special performance by musician Franky Perez.
Market Hours on Daley Plaza are 7am to 3pm.

Bike the Drive is Sunday, May 24 and one of the events offered during Bike Chicago 2009. During May, June, July, August and September, more than 100 events will offer fun and exciting ways to promote the economic, environmental and health benefits of biking as an alternative form of transportation.
